To commemorate the 700th anniversary of the birth of Inês de Castro, the painting exhibition (Un)VEILINGS OF PEDRO AND INÊS, in Alcobaça, Portugal. This exhibition brings together a distinguished group of artists—Cristina Henriques, Gianmarco Donaggio, Joana Guerra, João Leirão, Jorge Prata, Maria De Fátima Silva, Nélia Caixinha, and Nelson Ferreira—and the curation of Alberto Guerreiro.

The exhibition delves into the timeless and tragic love story of Pedro and Inês, one of the most poignant narratives in Portuguese history. Each artist interprets this tale through a unique lens, unveiling layers of passion, intrigue, and destiny in their works. The setting, Alcobaça, holds deep historical significance, as it houses the magnificent tombs of the star-crossed lovers in the Monastery of Alcobaça.
Complementing the visual experience, there was a talk by Jorge Pereira de Sampaio, offering deeper insights into the historical and cultural significance of Inês de Castro.
To enhance this experience further, I invite you to listen carefully to a beautiful aria from the Italian opera Inês de Castro, which is subtitled in English, Portuguese, and Italian. This musical piece captures the emotional depth and tragic beauty of Inês’s tale, resonating across centuries and cultures.
