Two New Art Academies in Porto and Lisbon: Learn Classical Realism in Portugal

I'm excited to introduce two exceptional Winter Academies, designed to bring back 19th-century classical art techniques in Portugal. These new programs, located in Porto and Lisbon, offer a comprehensive curriculum in traditional drawing and painting, catering to art lovers and practitioners of all skill levels.

We are proud to present the Winter Academy at the esteemed National Museum Soares dos Reis in Porto, organized in collaboration with Professor Pedro Santos Silva. This year is particularly significant for the museum, which has recently received both the "Museum of the Year 2024" and “Traveler’s Choice” awards, solidifying its place among the top cultural landmarks worldwide.

Running from October to February, the Winter Academy offers an immersive experience, beginning with a course based on the renowned Bargue Drawing Course. The curriculum is divided into four modules, all designed to teach traditional techniques that harken back to the methods of Soares dos Reis himself.

In Lisbon, 'The Atelier' will take place in the historic studio of renowned Portuguese painter José Malhoa, now part of the Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves. This initiative is a groundbreaking moment in Portugal’s art education, providing a platform for classical methods that have gained renewed appreciation globally.

The Lisbon program also runs from October to February, with courses structured around progressive modules in traditional art techniques. The first sessions include the Bargue Drawing Course, open to all skill levels. Bookings are now open for the Nov 30 + 1, 7 and 8 Dec 2024.

Looking into 2025, the program continues with Bargue II (January 14-17), focused on the Trois Crayons method and color temperature, followed by Cast Drawing (January 21-29) and Cast Painting (January 30-February 5).
